Is a Washer Seat just another washer??

I replaced an all but disintegrated washer from a stem in the shower and it didn't fix my leak, Someone wrote that my next step is to replce the Washer Seat behind it. But is this ';seat'; metal, rubber or what? Be sure to leave your email so I can follow up.Is a Washer Seat just another washer??
The washer seat is the part of the faucet that the washer contacts. It is probably metal and can be taken out by inserting an allen wrench of the correct size and turning counter-clockwise. (righty-tighty,lefty-loosey). Take the seat to your local hardware store and match it up with a new one. Usually the hot water side goes out first, so you might consider replacing both at the same time. Contact me by clicking on my handle. Is a Washer Seat just another washer??
the rubber seats against a machined brass seat. if it is pitted it needs to be removed with a seat wrench and replace with a new seat. good luck finding a supply house that has a seat for a forty year old valve. you are going to have to either walk on this one or install a new valve. i hope you don't have a handyman business...good luck
The seat is metal and inside the valve. You will need to buy some new seats and a wrench to remove and install the new one.

Anyone at a hardware store can help you with questions.
The 'seat' is the brass or pot metal that the washer seals against. If yours is corroded, like it was chromed, and the chrome has lifted, it tears up the washer, and needs to be replaced!

Put in a new washer, too!
