My washer isnt working... help please?

my washer was working fine all day yesterday and then on the last load when it switched to rinse there was a loud noise and it stopped working. it will fill with water and thats it. it wont spin or anything. also there is a burning smell, so thats not good. does anyone know what could have happend or know how to fix it?? any info could help. thanksMy washer isnt working... help please?
There is a small male and female coupling on the bottom which spins the agitator. I suspect that may be broken. We had the same problem with ours, a day before we were going on a vacation!! Filled up and did nothing else. Took it apart and found the broken part, went to Sears and got the replacement and put it back on. It was not a pain to replace, it was a bigger pain to put the cover back on the washer so it would not vibrate. Our washer was 12 yrs old, wife was hoping it finally bit the dust, but got it to work.My washer isnt working... help please?
SO WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH YOUR WASHER? Report Abuse

sounds like your drive belt went

washing machines aren't hard to work on, just a big pain to get inside of(I think they want you to call a repairman)do your homework on new ones if it is very old you might be better off buying a new one if repair is gonna be to much....call of few places and ask how much to change a belt(total charge)

do you run alot of heavy loads? always consider taking big heavy blankets and such to laudrymats and use their heavy duty washers
Without looking my guess could be a dry bearing. That would account for the noise. If what you smell is more of a burning rubber smell its a drive belt, burnt wiring smell would be in the electric motor that drives the drum. Unless you know someone real handy you will need a repairman. One that you can trust.
Hi: Sounds like your washer died. It's probably the motor burned out(I've had this happen many times). You can call a repairman for an estimate, but you may find it cheaper to buy a new washer. Also, when doing wash, try not to overload the washer with lots of heavy items like towels and jeans..that puts strain on the motor. Good luck!
Well call the company that made the washer, tell them what happened and if they can't solve the problem over the phone, then they should send out a repair man to see if he can fix it. It doesn't sound too good so call the company.
there could be something loose in there or you could have overused it (how old is it) and it overheated melting something inside perhaps, looks like its time to get a new washer
